Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling

You’re not alone. Many couples feel the strain of daily life, miscommunication, and old wounds that haven’t healed. It can get to the point where even the little things set you off, and the love you once shared seems distant.

Maybe you’re replaying old patterns, seeing yourself act like a parent, or not “over” something you or your partner thinks you should be. Unfortunately, in situations that affect one or both partners, time alone is very unlikely to heal a problem. You can’t just wait for “it” to go away.

“The best time to start couples therapy is as soon as you’re thinking about it.”

We all carry emotional baggage from the past. Everything that’s happened to us shapes how we communicate and connect with our partners. There is no timeline for healing and “getting over it.” Maybe you saw your parents fight constantly, you experienced a painful breakup that still stings, or your current partner and you have experienced a rift that never fully healed.

My couples sign up for 10 sessions, and within that time, healing happens. I use the Gottman Method of couples therapy as part of my toolkit for couples therapy and marriage counseling. Gottman techniques are backed by extensive research, making it a reliable approach with a high success rate. I work to help strengthen your bond and cultivate a space for joy and appreciation through coaching, psychoeducation, and processing a better understanding of oneself and one another.

[ Therapy That Yields Results ]

A space to explore the deeper issues causing conflict.

What’s really behind anger?

Because it’s never really about “who’s supposed to take out the trash.” Often, anger is a mask for other emotions like fear, hurt, or frustration. By understanding the root cause, we can find healthier ways to express ourselves.

How your & their past is affecting today.

Together, we’ll gently unpack those old wounds and rewrite the narrative. You can finally break the negative patterns that are holding you both back.

How to communicate effectively.

Learning to truly listen to each other, address conflict constructively, and express your needs calmly can make a world of difference.

Common questions about the process.

My couples typically sign up for 10 sessions, and within that time, healing happens. The Gottman Method is designed as short-term, structured therapy — though some couples choose to continue for deeper maintenance work. We’ll review your progress together and move at a pace that feels right for your relationship.

Our first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. I’ll want to understand the history of your relationship, what brings you in now, and what each of you hopes to change. There’s no pressure to have the “right” answers — this is simply the beginning of building trust and a shared picture of where you are.

Couples sessions are held together. Early on, I may suggest individual check-in sessions for each partner so I can understand your personal history and perspective. These are brief and focused — they help me tailor our couples work to the two of you.

Both work well. In-person sessions take place in a calm, private space in Brooklyn, NY. Telehealth is available across New York and New Jersey, and many couples find it easier to fit into busy schedules. The clinical work is equally effective either way — choose what helps you both feel most comfortable and present.

The Gottman Method is one of the most thoroughly researched approaches to couples therapy. It focuses on strengthening friendship, building shared meaning, and giving you concrete skills to manage conflict. It’s evidence-based and structured, which means you’ll leave sessions with tools you can actually use — not just insights.

I’m an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t bill insurance directly. Many couples submit my statements to their insurer for partial reimbursement. I’m happy to discuss fees and provide a superbill during our intro call so you know exactly what to expect before we begin.

That’s more common than you’d think, and it’s completely okay. Hesitation often comes from not knowing what to expect. The free intro call is a low-pressure way to ask questions and get a feel for the process before committing. Many reluctant partners find the structure of the Gottman Method reassuring once they understand it.

Esther Perel trained me in couples therapy & marriage counseling. When considering therapy, couples often feel isolated, demoralized, and/or like resentment is creeping in. Do you feel like you and your partner are walking on eggshells? Does every conversation turn into a fight, leaving you feeling unheard and frustrated?
